When your sump pump fails in St. Louis after a heavy rain, that basement water rises fast. I had mine give out last spring, and the backup left a mess with mud and soaked boxes. The humidity here makes it worse, so now I keep a spare pump ready. It's a common headache in this city's clay soil.
