A heavy rainstorm hit St. Louis last night, and now water is rising in our basement. The sump pump failed around midnight, and by morning there's about three inches of muddy water soaking old boxes, bicycles, and the water heater. Neighbors two blocks over had their sump pumps running nonstop too; this city's clay soil just doesn't drain well during torrential downpours. I'm using a wet/dry vac now to try to keep it from reaching the washer and dryer. I'm just hoping the sewer system can handle…
